Carolina Sá Vasconcellos was born in Rio de Janeiro. She is the daughter of architects Regina Sá and Marcos de Vasconcellos, who were also involved in music. Her mother was a guitar teacher, and her father, in partnership with Pingarilho, composed the song Samba da Pergunta, which was recorded by several renowned artists, including João Gilberto, Elis Regina, and Tim Maia. Carolina was a student at UFRJ and studied documentary filmmaking at the New School University in New York, USA. Her first project, the series Música Libre, co-produced by VideoFilmes, explores the musical cultures of five Caribbean countries, and was shown on various channels globally. She has directed over 200 documentaries for television and is currently involved in educational audiovisual projects for TV Escola and TV Ines, the first television for the deaf in Brazil. Later this year, she will launch her authorial project Onde Nascem as Ideias, a series of eight episodes about the creative process of Brazilian artists. Her first feature film, Construction, received the honorable mention of the Jury at FEMINA, Women's International Film Festival of Rio de Janeiro. Carolina is also a self-taught musician and has composed over 60 songs, including four recorded on her first album Adundundarandun, a partnership with her ex-husband and Cuban musician René Ferrer.
